Importance Of Hymns
Hymns have three crucial aspects:
They provide spiritual milk (1 Peter 2:2) which is already somewhat “digested” by others in their experiences of Christ and which is easy to partake of or participate in.
They are rich in affection - able to meet all of our needs according to the different stages of growth we experience throughout our Christian life.
They are rich in truth and experiences of Christ - a constitution of utterance to express an intimate sensation or experience of the Lord. Every line of a good hymn yields a top utterance for us to enjoy and apprehend.
Different hymns are to be enjoyed according to different stages of our growth. We have included ten categories of hymns to represent ten stages of growth in the Christian life. The first five stages can and should be experienced by all believers, but only spiritual men and women can possess the real spiritual experiences represented and uttered in the last five stages.
