Gospel
Gospel
The meaning of the word gospel is good news. According to Robertson and Strong, the Greek word for gospel is euangelion, which is composed of the Greek prefix eu- and the Greek part angel and the Greek ending -/on. eu- means good/well/full, angel comes from angello (to bring tidings/messages), and angello comes from ago (to lead/bring/drive/go). ago tells us that the good news will produce an operation and leading in the listeners for them to respond, to be able to follow and to live in the gospel.
euangelion, according to Kittel, is a very special event in ancient times, which speaks of a king's reigning and divine ruling. It speaks of the birth or enthronement of a king and the coming of a new era. This is a joyful good news, which will bring in a harvest year, such as the protection and healing of the people, and a prosperous and shining future.
euangelion, in addition, speaks of the offerings and the feasts for a new and promising era, which are Jesus Christ Himself, He is our unique offering, which brings us into God's presence. He is also the reality of our feasts for us to joyfully enjoy God and the dispensing of His divine life so as to build up His kingdom on the earth.
Therefore, when the Lord Jesus ministered on the earth, He testified that He was the One full of the Spirit and anointed by God to preach the gospel to us, In this gospel, we have gained our releasing, our sight and our freedom; in this gospel, we have been brought into the New Testament era, typified by the year of jubilee, the acceptable year of the Lord (Luke 4:16-177). This is the gospel, and this is God's economy.
