Well, It's Meeting Time
This song was written to express a strong concern that "meetings in Jesus' name" are no longer truly in Jesus' name, but according to tradition, according to practice and according to heirarchy. The Lord's presence and anointing is no longer the lead, but the goal in name only. See " The Problem Of 'Meeting' Together."
Luke 5:27 - 7:50
A Modern Version
Luke 5:36-39 Now it's †meeting time, “Who's got a †hymn?”
†Pray-read a line, and do it again.
We †sing and †pray, but where's reality?
1 Cor. 14 Then we †prophesy †revelation
But we're not changed when the meeting's done.
We hear so much, but where's reality?
Luke 5:36-39 Follow our forms and ways;
Least we don't have skits and plays
In a while you'll figure our routine.
Luke 6:1-11; 7:29-35 (We're) bound by our †high peak doctrine
Don't see the shameful mess we're in
Luke 6:39-42 What hypocrites are we!
Luke 6:17-36 Now the †gospel is a good idea
But don't `spect me to have the zeal
`Cause people are not open can't you see?
We'll invite `em here, (the) meeting's where it's at.
They'll come just once, imagine that?
Eph. 3 Oh, wake us up to Your economy?
Haggai 1:6-8 Could we just stop and think:
Col. 2:19 God desires to grow, not shrink.
We must see mankind just as He sees.
Luke 5:27-31; 7:34 The Lord was a friend of sinners.
Luke 5:31-32 He chose the sick, not winners.
Phil. 2:5-11 Oh, condescending love!
Rev. 3:14-22 When we †fellowship, we like our terms
Don't think too much you might get germs
How can we have such truth yet lukewarm be?
How we love the Lord's recovery
It's not like Christianity!
Luke 6:43-49 But does our living match what we believe?
Rom. 14:3 (No!) We'll not exclusive be.
1 Cor. 1:10-12 (Our) name is not “†Recovery”
Luke 17:33-36 (We) must lose all to gain reality.
Eph. 2:14-22 In spirit, in every city
We represent His Body
A living entity.
Luke 7:36-50 Oh, I'd like to be the woman there
Who shed her tears, wiped (Your) feet with (her) hair.
She touched You, Lord, unlike the Pharisee.
Then she kissed Your feet affectionately
Anointing them so lovingly!
She knew You paid her debt, now, she is free!
SS 1:2; 2 Cor. 4:6b Lord, kiss me and smile for me.
Psa. 126:3 Show me all You've done for me.
John 16:13 Guide me into all reality.
2 Cor. 3:17 Lord, You are now the Spirit.
1 Thess. 5:23 Touch (my) body, soul and spirit.
Rom. 8:29 Like You, conformed I'll be.
Rev. 2-3 Overcome in me.
( ) Parenthesis indicates extra words added (shoe-horned) to the phrasing in order to make the thought complete. However, in each case no additional time is added for that musical measure.
† In NO way is the author criticizing or demeaning this truth, concept or practice, but rather is pointing to the improper handling of such.
