God's Economy Made Simple
Tune: From the Wizard of Oz, `If I only had a brain'
When a man's an empty vessel his life is like a trestle
That never seems to end.
You don't know where you're goin'; in a boat you just keep rowin'
How I want reality.
So, I'm runnin' after nothin' eating turkey without stuffin'
I'm just not satisfied.
Lot's of words, but no poem; nothin' real that I can show 'em
How I want reality!
Picture me, a mystery: the salt, the light of God.
He'd be shinin' forth for other men to see
Much more of Christ and less of me.
Just to feel the Lord's emotion His jealousy, devotion
And really feel His heart.
I would stay young and vital, no position or a title,
If I had reality.
I have wasted many hours; bore no fruit and grew no flowers
And it never seems to rain.
I work hard, I'm so busy; got a fever, I'm so dizzy.
How can Christ be formed in me?
I know doctrine, I know teaching; I've even done some preaching
But something's missing still.
What I know isn't workin'; my commitment I am shirkin'.
How can Christ be formed in me?
How I need to hear the Lord by spending time with him.
I repent, confess, and open to His word
And He creates His faith in me.
No more wood, nor hay, nor stubble; my natural man's in trouble.
I'm waiting on the Lord.
With my heart I am turnin'; and my spirit now is burnin'
As the Lord is formed in me.
There are times I am courageous; my zeal is quite contagious;
I seek to win the world.
But when the world gave me a lickin'; I found out, I'm really chickin'.
How can Christ live out through me?
I would stand up in the meeting and give the saints a beating.
I thought I knew it all!
Then God's Word started shinin'; and my flesh began its' whinin'.
How can Christ live out through me?
Not rebelling or in pride, a spirit, meek and low.
I could boast but not to make a fleshly show.
No longer I, but Christ in me.
How I want to walk in spirit; face trouble and not fear it;
And speak what I have seen.
No more empty, slogan shouting; when defeated, no more pouting.
Only Christ lived out through me!
